previously on “majortk’s humongous waste of bandwidth blog“…my swiss fitness ball from gophersport.com was defective (aka “i crashed leo’s ball“).
Big Blue Ball
update: got a replacement one (65cm/26″ diameter blue). so far no problems. in fact, i’m sitting and bouncing on it as i’m typing this and it’s way funner than spinning in an office chair; although you probably shouldn’t bounce too much or too high, after eating a large meal or if your ceiling is too low and you’re a tall person.

pros:

  • so far i haven’t fallen off of it even though i bounced like crazy just because i like to live on the edge (and imitate other folks)
  • much more comfortable than i expected
  • it’s not deflating (or, worst yet, bursting)
  • fun to bounce up and down every once in a while (can’t do that in an office chair)
  • supposed to be healthier than sitting in a chair since you’re constantly maintaining balance so as not to fall off and hurt yourself, which is a good incentive btw

cons:

  • it takes long time to inflate using the hand pump. i would recommend something more powerful; or if your name is popeye, please disregard this
  • if you follow the included instructions, you’ll have to wait a day before using it
  • some tape (included in the box) measurement is advisable for optimal results
  • can’t spin on it like in an office chair
  • takes a while getting used to sitting on a ball
  • you’d probably look like a dork, if you use it at work

for those youngsters not familiar with ‘popeye: the sailor man’ check this out:

yeah, i know the video is kind of boring, dated, long, and weird unless you’re on something (spinach) ;)
